Eucharistic Minister

Most of those called to serve as commissioned ministers, like most of those called to serve as bishops, priests and deacons, know that they are not worthy of the call. Yet others recognise in us something that we may not recognise in ourselves.  If asked to serve then unless there is some grave reason not to do so, we can confidently accept the invitation, trusting in the church and in the love of God.

Take your responsibilities seriously and follow the requirements. Check the rotas and find a replacement if you are not able to attend. Attend the annual recommissioning service.

For Mass in the church:

On arrival, inform a steward or pastoral assistant that you are present.  In the minutes before Mass, pray privately for the community you are there to serve.  Pray that receiving Holy Communion may be fruitful in their lives. Approach the sanctuary as The Lamb of God is being said/sung.  Bow to the altar and stand in position on the sanctuary.  After the priest has given you Holy Communion, sanitise your hands. Distribute Holy Communion as directed by the priest.

Taking Holy Communion to the sick and housebound:

All ministers who wish to distribute to the sick and housebound must have a current DBS check completed by the parish. Visits must be agreed with the parish priest and the person being visited. Take holy communion in the proper container (Pyx).

Update the distribution of Holy Communion register when you return.
