Altar Serving

The role of an altar server is to enhance the quality of celebration at the altar, to serve, help and assist.  To give the Mass a greater solemnity, they must be humble in their service and actions, be willing to listen and learn.

Commitment to the role is required.  It is important to take your responsibilities seriously and attend practice/training sessions as requested.

All altar servers must have made their First Holy Communion.

Boys and girls are welcome to become altar servers.

All adults who have contact with children are DBS checked by the parish safeguarding person.

Adults will make contact directly with the parents regarding information etc.

Arrive at church in good time, at least 15 minutes before Mass is due to start.  Inform the catechist or pastoral assistant when you arrive.

Assemble in the allocated meeting place and prepare for Mass.  Dress smartly, including appropriate footwear (no trainers).

Prayers will be said before Mass, with instruction from the catechist.

Remember, serving at Mass is a special gift and that you are a role model to other children who may wish to serve on the altar.

The parish wishes to encourage more children to become altar servers.
